Minor already on probation
If a youth is currently being supervised by a juvenile probation officer in Santa Clara County and the youth admits to new charges or a court finds new charges true, the youth will continue to remain on probation but the term of their probation may be extended, whether formal or informal probation supervision. If a youth is alleged to have committed a new offense and had been previously arrested for different offense(s) but the citation was handled informally by the County of Santa Clara Probation Department, the District Attorney may formally file a petition for first citation(s), due the new offense allegation.
If a youth is already on probation in another county and the youth admits to new charges or a court finds new charges true, the youth will be placed on probation and supervised in the county of their residence.
If a youth has an extensive history of being on juvenile probation, or is on probation for more than one case, the court may require the youth to participate and complete more programs and impose home supervision (house arrest).
